Clement Lefebvre and the community behind the Linux Mint project announced last night on the official blog the immediate availability of the first release candidate of Linux Mint 6 (Felicia) Fluxbox Community Edition. This first RC is based on Xubuntu 8.10 (Intrepid Ibex) and it is powered by Linux kernel 2.6.27, X.Org 7.4 and Fluxbox 1.0.0. The good news for all Fluxbox fans is that this edition of Linux Mint 6 includes a brand new menu system called Mint-FM2, a new display manager called Slim (replacement for GDM), and many other nice tweaks. Without any further introduction, let’s take a look at the highlights of Linux Mint 6 Fluxbox Edition:
· Linux kernel 2.6.27;
· X.Org 7.4;
· Fluxbox 1.0.0;
· A brand new “Software Manager”;
· Slim, the new display manager;
· Mint-FM2, the new menu system;
· Support for FTP transfers in mintUpload;
· Support for history and proxies in mintUpdate;

· Thunar Shares, a Thunar add-on that allows users to share files with Samba;
· Media Player Daemon
· Vino, for remote desktop sharing and viewing;
· Gmrun, a run dialog with history and autocomplete functions;
· Gufw, graphical user interface for the ufw firewall;
· Conky, a lightweight system monitor tool;
· sysv-rc-conf, a command-line interface to configure system services;
· A function to automatically restore the default configuration of Fluxbox.

You’ll have to open each site manually, then wait for the web page to load and finally hit the print screen key. Now imagine repeating this process for 10 different websites every morning. Impossible, right?

After seeing it in action I’m quite looking forward to taking it around the block. I never quite got into [Macromedia|Adobe]Flash, and am quietly hoping Silverlight can find a spot next to it in the web ecosystem.
First thing I did when I got home was install Expression Studio, I got a little curious to find that there is a Visual Studio 2008 Standard disk in the box. It got me to wonder what really is the difference between VS Pro which I am using at the moment and VS Standard?

The TV measures just 0.9mm and is based on a prototype 0.3mm screen that Sony first showed earlier this year. The prototype set was on show at the Ceatec 2008 electronics expo in Japan and attracted a steady stream of curious attendees, with many of them snapping pictures of it.
